Dr. Boriskin began working with Vietnam veterans in 1979, just when post-traumatic stress syndrome, or PTSD, entered the professional and general vocabulary. Clinical Director of one of the first Vet Centers, he quickly developed an expertise in addictive disorders. Transitioning to private practice in Florida in 1986, he worked with a wide range of trauma survivors, particularly sexual abuse survivors.
Boriskin also became a psychological consultant for Hanley Hazelden and continued as a consulting lecturer for the Hazelden Foundation. He developed one of the earliest extended residential treatment programs and in 1999 cofounded the Advanced Recovery Center in Delray Beach, Florida. His passionate advocacy of integrated treatment, predated the ongoing movement toward specialized and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders, particularly those involving trauma. He is a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified addiction specialist.
