Protecting You/Protecting MeŽ (PY/PM) is a SAMHSA Model, 5-year (grades 1-5), classroom based alcohol-use prevention curriculum. It was produced in collaboration by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Hazelden. It is designed to reduce alcohol-related injury and death in our nation's youth.
PY/PM:Is proven to change students' knowledge about their brains and personal development
Improves elementary students' vehicle safety skills
The curriculum:Incorporates the latest research on human brain development
Focuses on the immediate risks of using alcohol before age 21
Includes parental involvement activities
Grade 2 program materials include:
a binder containing an implementation manual for teachers with step-by-step instructions to complete eight lessons
a fidelity checklist to monitor implementation quality
a scope and sequence that details learning outcomes
a parent letter in English and Spanish
In Person Training:
Schedule a group training for school or community staff to learn how to plan both schoolwide and classroom implementation of PY/PM for grades 1-5.
Participants in both training options will learn:How the latest research on children's brain development can inform prevention efforts
How to successfully deliver PY/PM in grades 1-5
How to maintain the fidelity of the original program research
