Frequently Asked Questions About A New Direction
It is estimated that up to 50 percent of inmates experience co-occurring disorders. Integrating treatment of mental health and substance abuse can reduce negative outcomes such as rearrest. That's why A New Direction, Hazelden's cognitive-behavioral treatment curriculum for chemically dependent inmates, includes a module that specifically addresses the co-occurring disorders of substance abuse and psychological problems.
The module includes 25 workbooks, a facilitator guide, and the DVD program Adults and Co-occurring Disorders. You can use the module as a standalone program, as part of A New Direction, or with existing treatment programs. The expanded facilitator guide presents a thorough introduction, including numerous helpful tips and frequently asked questions.
Client topics include:
What you are dealing with
Dealing with meds and treatment
Building a support system
