Addiction treatment for
health care professionals
A residential treatment program for addicted doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other health care professionals

The Health Care Professionals Program is designed specifically to help health care professionals recover from alcohol and drug addiction and regain their lives. Teams of experienced medical and clinical professionals develop treatment plans based on the unique recovery needs of each patient in a gender-specific treatment environment.
The Health Care Professionals Program includes:
- Group sessions on topics related to recovery from addiction.
- Peer-to-peer interaction as a critical component of the recovery process.
- A focus on the prevention of relapse.
- Tips for re-entry into the workplace after treatment for addiction.
- One-on-one sessions with health care professionals who are in recovery.
- Lectures on scientific and medical aspects of alcoholism and drug dependency and much more.
- Clinically integrated, collaborative care
It starts with an evaluation
For many, the treatment experience begins with Hazelden's comprehensive residential evaluation. Health professionals undergo an evaluation and diagnosis, complete medical assessment and examination, psychological assessment, drug and alcohol assessment, spiritual assessment, and psychiatric assessment. At its conclusion, we discuss our recommendations with the patient, referent, and family as appropriate.
Residential treatment
Hazelden's residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment program for health care professionals incorporates many services: group therapy, mental health, spiritual, family, wellness services and individual counseling. Through ongoing sessions with the program physician and clinical staff, patients address issues related to professional licensure, employment status, professional practice, and participation in formalized health care monitoring programs. The length of stay is truly individualized based on the client's needs, but it frequently falls between 30 and 90 days....often participants will complete a month of residential treatment and then "step down" to a less intense level of care while remaining on campus.
Regaining your professional status
Hazelden has longstanding relationships with diversion, well-being, and monitoring programs as well as other experts who provide resources to recovering health care professionals. From admission and assessment through treatment and continuing care, Hazelden staff work closely with these agencies. Following their treatment, we refer licensed professionals to the appropriate monitoring program for ongoing support.
