Sponsored by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, the Grit & Grace symposium featured leading experts and authors who shared research and insights as well as practical ideas for lasting recovery. Epidemic in Our MistCongresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (center) was one of the panelists who spoke Oct. 2 at the "Epidemic in our Midst" community forum on opiate addiction. Also pictured are Nick Motu, of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation's Center for Public Advocacy (sponsors of the event) and Jan Vondrachek, vice president of the foundation's Pacific NW region. Approximately 120 people attended the event moderated by Dr. Andrew Mendenhall, medical director of Hazelden at Beaverton. Other speakers included Dr. Marv Seppala, chief medical officer at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, and a mother whose son is in recovery from heroin addiction.
