Teen and young adult addiction, drug rehab
Hazelden is committed to reaching and helping people from around the world find freedom from the disease of addiction, and young people are at the forefront of our efforts.

At Hazelden, our goal is simple -- help restore hope, healing, and health to people affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Each day, through expert clinical care, pioneering publications, and leading-edge research and education, Hazelden is there. We research, train, innovate, educate, inform, and treat because we believe that every person deserves to experience life fully, free from addiction.
Treatment |
Hazelden invented modern addiction treatment. Our success is based on years of research and studying what works. We treat each person with dignity and respect, while providing a safe place in which to heal. For more than 30 years, Hazelden has helped thousands of adolescents and young adults get a fresh start on life free from alcohol or other drugs. Our structured yet nurturing environment provides developmentally appropriate treatment while encouraging personal growth and responsibility in recovery.
Alcohol and drug addiction treatment is delivered many ways, depending on the needs of the individual. Residential treatment may be necessary for some, while others may be able to complete treatment on an outpatient basis. For most, a combination of treatment services provides the best chance for recovery. Hazelden offers patients a full continuum of care. Our addiction treatment services are delivered by an on-site, multi-disciplinary team of experts who create individual plans based on the clinical needs of clients.

Recovery Management |
Completing treatment in Hazelden's adolescent and young adult services is only the beginning of getting well. Addiction is a chronic disease that needs to be managed like any other chronic illness. Recovery requires a daily commitment to sober living. Whether in the first month of recovery or the first decade, people can look to Hazelden for the resources necessary to help maintain freedom from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
From digital support to in-person help around the country, Hazelden's 24/7 programs and services offer people a variety of ways to access recovery support

Advocacy |
Hazelden's Center for Public Advocacy works hard to fight the stigma of addiction and to promote the promise and possibility of recovery. Our efforts focus on defining and advancing policy and legislation that will help people with the disease of addiction more easily find treatment and recovery support. We also encourage people to speak out and tell their own stories to offer hope to others.
Prevention |
In addition to curricula for educators and prevention specialists, Hazelden has comprehensive resources -- including articles, research, books, videos, and more on various prevention topics -- to help you prevent and detect the signs of risky behavior. These materials can better equip you to provide guidance to a child, student, or client.
Education |
As a non-profit organization, Hazelden shares resources and educates the community on the disease of addiction. Our experts participate in events around the world to share best practices and provide meaningful advice to both professionals and community members.
Intervention |
In response to the growing need for chemical abuse information online, Hazelden has created About My Drinking, a free and anonymous screening and brief intervention tool designed to guide addicts and families to the right help and resources.
Hazelden also offers Teen Intervene, an evidence-based program designed to provide education, support, and guidance for young people who have experienced mild to moderate chemical use. The program involves a mental health professional and the young person. Parents join in for the final session to discuss goals and coping skills.
Assessment |
At Hazelden, we do not assume that a diagnosis of alcoholism or other addiction exists when people contact us for help. Our expert assessment process provides an accurate diagnosis along with recommendations for follow-up care. Many assessment options are available, depending on the need of the individual.
- Free, phone-based assessments with a licensed addiction professional
at 800-257-7810. - Free, confidential self-guided, online alcohol and drug screening tool at aboutmydrinking.org.
- In-person assessments to determine whether treatment services are recommended and, if so, what type. A more lengthy assessment is available for those who have been court ordered to have an assessment done or for those who need assessment documentation.
- Seven- to 10-day residential evaluations take an in-depth look at psychological issues, spirituality, family relationships, physical health, social history, and alcohol and other drug use. A diagnosis is made and recommendations for level of care and resources are provided.
