Experience presentations by Hazelden staff and recovering veterans on topics such as resilience, military skills that support recovery, those that get in the way, and emotional sobriety. Donald Elverd, PsyD, LP, has been a senior staff psychologist with Hazelden for 23 years. He was a sergeant with the Twenty-Fifth Infantry Division in Vietnam. He spent two years in army hospitals for wounds and has practiced a program of recovery for the last 42 years.
Major John Donovan is a person in long-term recovery with over 37 years of sobriety. He has presented to military audiences in Germany, Iraq, and the U.S. on substance abuse and recovery in the Armed Forces. He has been in the military for over 25 years and has deployed three times since 9/11. He holds an associate and bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and a master's degree from Boston University.
