As the myriad of issues surrounding recovery treatment become more demanding, academic and clinical preparation is essential. We are committed to advancing the field of addiction counseling by providing the best education for every student through closely supervised clinical practice, exposure to a wide range of counseling experiences, and continued professional growth after graduation. Graduates are employed in addiction treatment centers, correctional settings, school settings, hospitals, clinics and government agencies.

Integrating academic preparation with clinical experience
The Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies, located on the Center City, Minn. campus of the world-renowned Hazelden alcohol and drug addiction treatment center, offers a unique curriculum that integrates theory, science and clinical practice from the first semester through graduation. Courses each semester include clinical placements in external and internal locations. The clinical labs allow students to observe, shadow clinicians, and practice newly developed skills.

Graduates join a growing global network of outstanding addiction professionals who are in the forefront of knowledge, skill and leadership in the addictions field.

  • Almost 60 HGSAS Alumni enjoyed the Alumni Reunion on August 19th.  Alumni met new graduates, exchanged stories, enjoyed hors devours and earned 2 CEs by attending Dr. Dan Frigo's presentation: Therapeutic Alliance: Dealing with Difficult Clients.
