  Graduate School of Addiction Studies - Individualized training in addiction treatment
These four- to eight-month residential programs are located at Hazelden's Center City, Minnesota campus. The programs are designed for professionals who are seeking additional competencies regarding addiction and its treatment. Learning opportunities are based on individualized goals and can include academic coursework and clinical exposure in one or more of Hazelden's programs across our continuum of care. Participants are welcome to attend staff inservices and selected courses from our Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling Program.

Admission Criteria

  • Two years of freedom from chemical use is required prior to clinical process courses.
  • Two years post-secondary education
  • Prior knowledge of addiction treatment and recovery.  Experience is preferred in a Twelve Step program such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Overeaters Anonymous, Emotions Anonymous.
  • English proficiency. If English is not your primary language, you may be required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and obtain a score of at least 550 on the written test or 213 on the computer-based test.
  • Prior educational and/or clinical experience in chemical use or the human services
  • Basic computer skills are required prior to admission

Tuition
2008 tuition for a customized program is $10.75 per hour plus $50 student technical fee per semester.

Certification/Licensing
Hazelden will provide you with a Certificate of Participation and a transcript that documents the academic and clinical hours in your program. Many state certification and licensing boards recognize our academic and clinical hours. Contact your state office for requirements.

Course Work
The student's individual needs will determine course work.
