District looks to curb bullying

By Ashley Vasquez
KC Community News (Kansas), May 28

...Bargman said almost every school district was facing this challenge and asked the school board's permission to apply for the Olweus Bullying Prevention program grant through Tri-County Mental Health. The grant, if awarded, would be $2,000 for the implementation of the program in one school. The grant for the program is expected to be awarded sometime in January 2009.
Despite the grant, Bargman and the other counselors stressed that this program would be more beneficial if it was kicked off immediately in the 2008-2009 school year.
"We need to do this now," she said. "We would like to propose that the money for this program be found within the district's budget so we can get to work as soon as possible." read more
