Professionals in Residence

Center City, MN

Situated on 500 private, peaceful and scenic acres of rural Minnesota countryside, Hazelden's Center City campus, located 50 miles north of Minneapolis and St. Paul, is the largest facility in the Hazelden system. Each year more than 2,000 men and women begin their recovery journey here.

Hazelden Center CityProfessionals at Center City attend classes presented by Hazelden clinicians that provide a foundation for understanding addiction, treatment and recovery.  A deeper level of understanding is gained by observing and participating on a primary residential treatment unit. Each individual will interact with patients and staff, following patients' daily schedule including activities such as groups, lectures, discussions, meals and wellness services. Observing treatment planning and clinical staffing with the interdisciplinary team is another key learning opportunity provided. This unique combination of learning is a highlight of the PIR Program noted by participants.

For areas of special interest, individual meetings with staff may be arranged. And for professionals whose interest lies in learning about families of addicted persons, we offer the opportunity to participate in our Family Program rather than a treatment unit. However, due to the scheduled starts of our four-day Family Program, this option needs to be arranged in advance.

"After a one week exposure to Hazelden's quality program and skillful therapists, to the many informative lectures and to the patients struggling through recovery, I feel exponentially more capable to provide help, hope and direction to my own patients. My level of understanding, depth of compassion and acceptance of addiction as disease have grown in an almost tangible manner." –PIR participant
