Dan Anderson Renewal Center Presenters

Renewal Center staff and guest facilitators include experts in addiction treatment and recovery, spiritual care professionals, popular lecturers, and noted recovery authors. All of our presenters bring extraordinary expertise and compassion to their work at the Renewal Center.

Bill Alexander Bill Alexander, author of the recovery classic Ordinary Recovery, leads workshops nationwide and has a private counseling practice, Awakening to Love, at his home in Minnesota.
Allen Berger, PhD Allen Berger, PhD, is a psychotherapist who has written extensively about the experience of recovery, emotional sobriety, and the psychological forces operating within the Twelve Steps. He is author of 12 Stupid Things That Mess Up Recovery, 12 Hidden Rewards of Making Amends, and 12 Smart Things to Do When the Booze and Drugs Are Gone.
Echo Bodine Echo Bodine, an internationally known psychic and healer, is the author of 11 books, including A Still, Small Voice: A Psychic's Guide to Awakening Intuition and Look for the Good and You'll Find God.
Mike Borash Mike Borash is a Virginia State Licensed and National Board Certified Professional and a Virginia Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with over 35 years of experience working in the field of addiction recovery. He has studied extensively with Harville Hendrix, PhD at Imago Relationships International. Mike practices Imago Relationship Therapy, offers couples weekend workshops, and also trains therapists in this approach worldwide.
Maureen Brine Maureen Brine is an Imago relationship therapist, senior clinical instructor, workshop presenter, registered nurse, ICADC, and Csat therapist. She has been in the field of addiction for almost 40 years. Having completed the majority of her training with Dr. Harville Hendrix, (author of Getting the Love You Want), she has been a faculty member with The Institute of Relationship Therapy since 1997 and has a successful private practice in Toronto.
Roger Bruner Roger Bruner is a Renewal Specialist at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center at The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Center City, Minnesota. He is also an active 38 year member of the recovery community, a spiritual director, and the founder of "The Gathering with Roger B.," as well as the Director of Gopher State Tape Library, Inc. a non-profit recovery-based recording service, serving the Upper Midwest and Canada for over 42 years.
JoAnn Campbell-Rice JoAnn Campbell-Rice is manager of Renewal Programs and Spiritual Care at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center. A former professor of writing, she has a private practice of spiritual direction in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Karen Casey Karen Casey, PhD, is the best-selling author of Each Day a New Beginning, which has sold more than three million copies and has been translated into 10 languages. Among her other best-selling inspirational books are Keepers of the Wisdom, A Woman's Spirit, Fearless Relationships, and A Life of My Own.
Kevin Griffin Kevin Griffin is a Buddhist teacher and longtime Twelve Step participant. He is the author of One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps and Recovering Joy: A Mindful Life after Addiction. He teaches internationally on this synthesis
Fred Holmquist Fred Holmquist is director of the Lodge Program at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center and has worked in the field of addiction and recovery for 37 years. He draws on a variety of sciences and wisdom traditions in teaching the life principles of the Twelve Steps.
Martha Susan Horton Martha Susan Horton, PhD, is director of The Amate Institute in Aspen, Colorado, dedicated to helping adolescents and adults achieve emotional maturity/sobriety through the Amate Growth Work method she developed. Martha is the author of The Seashell People: Growing Up in Adulthood, titled in softcover Growing Up in Adulthood: The Journey to Emotional Maturity, and Achieving Emotional Maturity in Adulthood. Will Hudson Will Hudson is a renewal specialist at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center. A popular presenter and lecturer, Will brings authentic love, knowledge, and a great sense of humor with him wherever he goes.
Theresa Jacobs-Stewart Thérèse Jacobs-Stewart has been a practicing psychotherapist, spiritual director, and meditation teacher for over 30 years. A recognized recovery writer, Thérèse's most recent book is Mindfulness and the 12 Steps: Living Recovery in the Present Moment.
Heather Jeffrey Heather Jeffrey, CTC, has years of experience working with individuals, groups, families, and youths in a variety of experiential learning modalities. She is advanced certified with EAGALA and is pursuing her LADC/LPCC.
Delia Jurek Delia Jurek, renewal specialist at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center, is a teacher, artist, and actor with more than 25 years at Hazelden. She sees the Big Book as a source of wisdom for daily living and teaches the simple, practical use of this manual for recovery.
Carrie Kappel Carrie Kappel, BS, RN, LADC, is the assistant director of Hazelden's Health Care Professionals Program and Coordinator of Nurse Professional Program. She is a Registered Nurse as well as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, working in health care advocating for patients' treatment and care for over 20 years.
Julie Karsky Julie Karsky is a yoga instructor at the Renewal Center and is certified in all levels of YogaFit. She teaches young children, elders, first-timers, experienced practitioners and those with chronic pain with an extraordinary level of love and light.
Don Karksy Don Karsky, a former addiction counselor, is a drum-circle facilitator with more than 50 years of drumming experience. He has facilitated drum circles for Hazelden, the Minnesota Association of Resources
Patrick Krill Patrick Krill, JD, LADC, directs the Legal Professionals Program at Hazelden in Center City, Minnesota. He is a licensed member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Elene Loecher Elene Loecher is a spiritual director and mindfulness teacher who creates a safe environment for group participants to transform. She has 40 years of experience leading retreats, including 30 years at the Renewal Center. Her practice has included time in India and Thailand.
Lama Losang Lama Losang is a fully ordained Tibetan Buddhist Lama in the Kagyu Lineage, an acupuncture physician, and Tai Chi master. He has dedicated his life to ending suffering and the roots of suffering.
Daniel Maurer Daniel Maurer was an ordained ELCA minister for 11 years before falling hard in his addiction. Now in recovery, he works as a writer and speaker. Daniel lives with his wife and two boys in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Lynn Moore Lynn Moore, LADC, is cofounder of Acres for Life Therapy and Wellness Center, focusing on addiction recovery and mental health/wellness using experiential modalities. Lynn is advanced certified with EAGALA, the global standard for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Marc Myer Marc Myer, MD, is the director of Hazelden's Health Care Professionals Program in Center City, Minnesota. He is a board certified addiction specialist, an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Minnesota Society of Addiction Medicine, and serves as chairperson for Physicians Serving Physicians in Minnesota.
Craig Nakken Craig Nakken, MSW, LICSW, LMFT, is the author of several recovery standards, most recently Finding Your Moral Compass: Transformative Principles to Guide You in Recovery and Life. He has a private practice in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Jay Stackhouse Jay Stackhouse is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor currently working on Jellinek. He has worked at Hazelden since 2004 in a variety of positions. He lectures regularly on the disease of addiction, symptoms and phases of the disease, and chapter 3 from the big book.
Sara Stromberg Sara Stromberg is a dedicated member of the recovery community. She is passionate about helping people.
Annetta Sutton Annetta M. Sutton, MA, AAPC, is the founder of Five Point Consulting. She brings more than 25 years experience in leadership and spiritual counseling in the private sector to her work as an author, speaker, and educator. She is the author of Catholic Alcoholic: A Witness to Addiction and Redemption.
Teesie Vallero Teesie Vallero is a renewal specialist at the Dan Anderson Renewal Center and on staff at the Midwest Institute for Forgiveness Training. She has a private practice as a forgiveness coach and Reiki master practitioner at the Well Healing Arts Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Fran Williams Fran Williams, PsyD, LP, LMFT, is a clinician, educator and senior psychologist for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, where she works with individuals, couples, families, and groups. She is an adjunct professor at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies and at St. Mary's University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
