Referents - Guidelines On Who Is Clinically Appropriate
Different Hazelden locations provide various levels of care. If you have questions about clinical appropriateness, please call us and we can discuss the needs of your client. Hazelden uses its own admission criteria as well as ASAM.

General Considerations
Medical detoxification is available at all Hazelden residential facilities. While detoxification protocols will differ, Hazelden does not make a distinction between alcohol and other drugs in terms of the total recovery program.

Patients must be medically and psychologically stable. Hazelden residential programs are not acute care facilities or locked units. We do provide 24-hour nursing and medical services and emergency transport and referral. Hazelden can assist you in determining if your client is appropriate.

Hazelden Center for Youth and Families (HCYF) provides residential and outpatient care for young people ages 14-25. Often, young people who started substance use at an early age are not emotionally mature, and do better in a youth centric program. Again, Hazelden staff can help you determine if your younger clients are appropriate for HCYF.
