| Due to a generous donation made by the Huss Family Foundation, the Butler Center for Research at Hazelden is able to offer a permanently endowed Research Chair position on the topic of older adults and alcohol/drug problems to external researchers and scholars.
Butler Center for Research staff and the chair holder(s) collaborate to conduct research in the areas of prevalence, prevention, intervention, treatment, continuing care, and family support for older adults.
Together with Dr. Frederic Blow (University of Michigan) and Dr. David Oslin (University of Pennsylvania), BCR staff are working on the following projects:
- Comparisons of alcohol and drug dependence, treatment needs, and outcomes among middle-aged and older adults.
- Comparison of alcohol and drug dependence, treatment needs, and outcomes among men and women ages 65 and above.
- An examination of the impact of an older adult's alcohol/drug problem on family members. This study also seeks to identify needs specific to family members and significant others.
