Top 5 most frequently asked questions

How much does drug and alcohol treatment cost?

It depends on the type of addiction treatment and services you need. We offer a range of services from the less expensive outpatient rehab (which is for people with less serious addiction issues) to residential treatment where people live with us for 4 to 6 weeks or longer to get the help they need. The typical cost for outpatient addiction treatment is $10,000 and residential alcohol and drug rehab ranges between $20,000 to $32,000 depending on the level of services needed.  Additional services such as counseling for other issues, prescriptions, etc. are charged separately when needed. Much of this addiction treatment cost can be covered by insurance or with some financial assistance provided by Hazelden to those who qualify.

Does Hazelden take insurance for drug and alcohol treatment?

Yes. We are in network of many major insurance companies including BlueCross/BlueShield, Health Partners, Aetna, Preferred One, ComPsych, and Value Options. Click here to see the full list. In addition, Hazelden Treatment Centers are "insurance friendly," meaning not only that we accept insurance, but we work hard with insurance companies on behalf of our clients in treatment to find the best payment solutions for them. Our financial case managers have an expert understanding of using both in-network and out-of-network benefits, and will work closely with insurance companies to streamline the process and ensure that the patient receives the maximum benefit available. As a nonprofit organization, we also work to determine if patient aid and no- or low-interest loans are available and can be used in combination with insurance benefits for addiction treatment.

What kind of rehab programs do you offer?

Hazelden offers a wide array of alcohol and drug treatment programs and services for adults and youth including specialized rehab programs for men, women, health care professionals, lawyers and pilots.  Our mental health professionals are skilled at helping patients with co-occurring disorders (issues in addition to addiction, such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders) - a service that sets Hazelden apart from other alcohol and drug treatment centers. Another service exclusive to Hazelden patients is our MORE program that provides 18 months of addiction recovery support via the Web and personal Recovery Coaches.  As part of our commitment to "lifelong recovery," we also have an active Alumni Relations group, weekly retreat offerings and The Lodge program.  Family members play an important role in the addiction recovery process and are encouraged to attend our renowned Family Program, Parent Program, and Sibling Program.

Do you treat anything besides drug and alcohol addiction?

Many people who come to Hazelden seeking treatment for their drug or alcohol addiction may also struggle with mental health issues such as depression, eating disorders, grief, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. This combination of addiction along with a mental health issue is called "co-occurring disorders" and, in fact, is quite common. Hazelden has medical staff, psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors on site who are skilled at addressing the complexity of issues around co-occurring disorders alongside the addiction to drugs and alcohol.
