2 Day Virtual Training Overview

Join the experts at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation for a live, online training of the award-winning, evidence-based curriculum A New Direction.

This 2-day virtual training will guide clinicians through the evidence-based curriculum, A New Direction, one of the most popular curricula in the field of substance use disorder treatment for those who are overcoming criminal and addictive thinking patterns.

A New Direction is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral therapy treatment program that helps people with substance use disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system challenge their thinking in order to change their patterns of behavior.

This curriculum is a multi-format, multi-modal system of client workbooks, facilitator guides, guidebooks, and videos. The training is designed to help attendees and their staff make effective use of all materials to deliver a targeted treatment experience the enables program participants to recognize and overcome criminal and addictive thinking.

Who Should Attend?

This virtual training is designed for agencies and providers that own the A New Direction curriculum, whose professionals who are implementing the curriculum with justice-involved clients, including clinical supervisors, therapists, counselors and group facilitators.

What Will You Learn?

Upon completion of the training, treatment providers will be equipped to help their clients overcome criminal and addictive thinking patterns. Following this training, attendees will learn to:

  • Meet participants wherever they are in the continuum of treatment and recovery
  • Address all critical aspects of a participant's life with components that can be used independently or sequentially
  • Equip participants with new coping skills, eliminating destructive behaviors
  • Utilize the materials to increase engagement of participants
  • Understand how non-clinical corrections staff can implement components of the curriculum
  • Create a plan for implementation, outcome measurements, and program fidelity

Training Requirements

All attendees are required to own a physical copy or have access to a digital subscription prior to the training start date. There are no prerequisite reading assignments for this course. This is an interactive training, and attendees will be expected to participate through use of webcam, microphone and engagement in training discussion.


Program Faculty

Klementyna (Ky) Weyman, LCSW, Trainer

Klementyna (Ky) Weyman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from the state of Florida. Her work in direct practice has focused on program development and implementation of evidence-based practices for co-occurring disorders, with particular focus on young adult and veteran populations. She also has a passion for teaching, with extensive involvement in the training of other clinicians in risk assessment and crisis intervention. Her current areas of interest include finding synergy between evidence-based treatment modalities for co-occurring disorders, implementation and organizational change processes, and integration of care across providers and treatment delivery systems. She is a graduate of Tufts University, and the University of Central Florida.

What Will You Learn?

Following the successful completion of the entire program, attendees will earn 13 CEs* through NAADAC and will be issued a digital certificate that will be emailed at the close of the program at no additional fee.
