Christopher Kennedy Lawford will be the featured speaker at Hazelden's 60th anniversary celebration on Oct. 2, 2009 at The Depot in Minneapolis.
Lawford, sober for more than 19 years, will share his experience, strength and hope with Hazelden friends. He is the first child of Peter and Patricia Kennedy Lawford and has worked extensively in politics, government and business, as well as Hollywood. Before his successes, he battled a drug and alcohol addiction for much of his young life. He shares his personal story of recovery in hopes of making a difference. He is the author of the new book Moments of Clarity: Voices from the Front Lines of Addiction and Recovery (December 2008), a collection of stories from stars such as Alec Baldwin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lou Gossett, Jr., and Judy Collins who struggled with addiction and achieved recovery. He is also author of Symptoms of Withdrawal: A Memoir of Snapshots and Redemption. In addition to Lawford's talk, the 60th anniversary event will include a morning symposium for professionals led by leaders in the addiction field, a youth symposium in the afternoon, a panel discussion on Hazelden history, and appearances and book signings by Hazelden authors. A casual dinner and Lawford's talk will cap the evening. For more information, contact Patricia Broat by email or at 651-213-4429. The Hazelden Voice is published twice yearly by Hazelden.
