Dear Hazelden Supporter, Hazelden Foundation today announced that Ellen Breyer, President and CEO since 2002, will step down from her position on April 4, 2008. However, Ellen will remain on hand in a consulting role through June 1, 2008 to help ensure a smooth transition. Ellen leaves behind an impressive record of accomplishment and a legacy that will serve Hazelden well for many years to come. Under her direction, Hazelden has become stronger financially, opened the Women's Recovery Center, received accreditation for the Graduate School of Addiction Studies, established the Center for Public Advocacy and managed growth of the world's largest prevention, treatment and recovery publisher. An active national search has been launched for the next CEO of Hazelden. In the interim, Hazelden will be run on a business-as-usual basis by Ellen and our highly capable and seasoned senior management team. Ellen is committed to helping Hazelden make a smooth and effective transition. In remarks to staff about her plans, she noted that a number of high-profile projects during her tenure, such as those noted above, are complete or substantially so. Others still in process, such as our planned expansions in New York and Florida, while launched, will take years of commitment to see through. Both Ellen and the board believe now would be the optimal time to make a leadership transition. The board and organization are deeply grateful to Ellen for her service and wish her every future success. We also appreciate your continuing interest and support for our efforts to combat the disease of addiction. As we have for almost 60 years, we're devoting all of our strength and resources to that daunting struggle. With your help, we will continue the remarkable progress we've made in treatment and prevention and toward realizing the vision of lifelong recovery. We look forward to Hazelden's future with confidence.
Sincerely, February 22, 2008 |
