Coping with Stress: A CBT Program for Teens with Trauma Training Agenda

Teens are often difficult to engage and retain in treatment and generally do not want to be “therapized” or preached to by adults. In this program, adolescents are taught how to examine the accuracy of upsetting thoughts and beliefs and use problem-solving skills. This intervention is appropriate for teens demonstrating post-traumatic reactions, with or without other co-occurring problems such as depression, behavior issues, or mild self-injurious behavior.

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the prevalence of trauma and PTSD in adolescent populations
  • Recognize the key theories and principles of cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Explain how trauma influences the behavior, emotions, and thought process of adolescents
  • Apply the theories and principles of cognitive behavioral therapy to adolescents with a history of trauma
  • Implement Coping with Stress:  A CBT Program for Teens with Trauma by using the Provider Manual and the Coping with Stress Handbook: A Guide for Young People
  • Develop a next-step action plan supporting the implementation of Coping with Stress: A CBT Program for Teens with Trauma
