Alcohol and drug addiction treatment, alcoholism, drug rehab and lifelong recovery support.
  Donor Recognition: Akara Draper
Reverend Akara Draper

Why do I support Hazelden?
Rev. Draper clearly is committed to people who want to transform their lives through recovery. She also recognizes and appreciates the work Hazelden does to provide a firm foundation for its patients, and that's why she consistently supports Hazelden as a Circle of Hope donor. Why does she support Hazelden?

"Because it has a good comprehensive program of recovery," she says. "Because of the support of alumni and a strong mission-driven focus, Hazelden is able to keep its treatment costs reasonable, and that's certainly not true of all private treatment centers.

"Also, Hazelden is a quality program, with good follow-up, transitional care, and aftercare programs," she adds. "Hazelden treats recovery as a lifelong journey, which it is. It also provides scholarships, or patient aid, to people who lack financial resources. I'm delighted that Hazelden is able to help some people of limited means."

Hazelden also touches people who go on to give back to society, people like Rev. Draper, who might not have achieved that ability without the help of Hazelden. "Hazelden made an indelible mark on my life," she says, "and for that I'm very grateful."

Rev. Draper Profile
Rev. Draper is grateful for the compassionate, effective treatment that Hazelden provides--unfortunately, it is the type of successful care that her alcoholic parents never received. "I went through the Hazelden Family Program in 1979,"says Rev. Draper, a 53-year-old interfaith minister from Santa Cruz, Calif., "and it was absolutely a life-changing experience for me. I lost both of my parents to alcoholism and its widespread effects, and I experienced some very deep wounds as a result of living in an alcoholic family--unresolved issues of loss, grief and anger. The Family Program helped me open up and address those issues."
