| Hazelden's Center for Youth and Families provides residential and outpatient services for young people ages 14-25. We find that young adults, 18 years of age and older, frequently do better in a youth setting, and younger adolescents learn from the older ones as well. In some instances, 24 and 25 year olds may be appropriate for adult services if they are mature, married or accustomed to interacting primarily with adults.
Do you treat eating disorders? Gambling addiction?
Hazelden programs work for individuals with many issues, but alcoholism/drug addiction is the primary issue we treat. We do not have programs for those whose main problem is an eating disorder or gambling, however many people who are alcoholic or addicted to other drugs also have issues with food and gambling. These issues are then addressed during treatment through special groups, one-to-one counseling, and recommendations for further care are provided upon discharge from Hazelden.
Dad is 65. Isn't it too late to deal with his drinking?
It is never too late to live a sober life. Many older adults are dealing with loss and grief issues, as well as declining physical capabilities, and they begin to drink excessively or abuse prescription medications. In fact, more than a quarter of all patients at Hazelden's Center City, Minnesota campus are over 55 years old. Older adults admitted to primary treatment will find a peer group of other older adults and counselors who are skilled at providing quality care for this special population. In addition to offering a full range of treatment services for the older adult, Hazelden also is able to offer additional services in mental health, wellness, research, and continuing care.
Do addicted healthcare workers need different programs?
Hazelden offers special programs for addicted healthcare professionals. These programs work with state and regional diversion programs to meet the special needs of addicted doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, dentists, nurses - anyone who works with prescription medications in their professional practice.
