Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center psychologist Tracy Stecker, Ph.D. is devoted to helping people get all the care they deserve, want, and need. During this web conference, she'll share her research and clinical experience in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to motivate people with substance abuse or mental health disorders to seek treatment.  She--and her team of researchers--use this practice to help people who are suffering from depression, PTSD, and substance abuse take the first step to get the treatment they need. In her presentation, you'll hear about their work with military personnel returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, patients in hospital emergency rooms, and clients who are seen in primary care offices.  Most importantly, you'll learn how you can apply this evidence-based model of brief intervention to motivate your clients to get help.

This brief intervention protocol has widespread applications across settings, and can be delivered via telephone or in person. Examples of possible attendees include those who work in primary care facilities, intake call centers, military outlets, school counseling departments, and parole offices. This webinar is hosted by Hazelden and is free with purchase of the guide, Using a Brief Intervention to Motivate Clients to Get Help: A How-to Manual for Professionals. 1 APA and 2 NAADAC continuing education hours available by completing a learner assessment at the end of the webinar.
