Clinical Research Activities

Using Texting Technology to Improve
Continuing Care Compliance Among Young
Adults with Substance Dependence

The objective of this study is to examine the clinical utility of delivering brief, motivational text messages to adolescents who recently completed residential treatment. 110 patients from Hazelden's Center for Youth and Families will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will receive brief text messages from Hazelden on their cell phones during the first 3 months following treatment; the other group will not receive the messages. We will examine whether patients who receive the messages show greater continuing care compliance and attend more Twelve Step meetings than patients in the control group.
