Women and Addiction: A Trauma-informed Approach
Dr. Stephanie Covington is a clinician, organizational consultant, author and lecturer. She is recognized for her pioneering work on women's issues and specializes in programs on addiction, sexuality, families, and relationships. Her practical and sensitive approach to these challenging issues provides an opportunity to learn new skills in dealing with personal, institutional, and societal changes in the 21st century.
Over the past thirty years our knowledge of women's lives has increased dramatically, and we have added significantly to our understanding of the treatment needs of chemically dependent women. This one day training offers a comprehensive treatment model that integrates theories of addiction, women's psychological development, and trauma. Designed for counselors, clinicians, and program administrators, the training focuses on the elements needed for women's recovery services. The key issues of self, relationships, sexuality, spirituality, and the therapeutic techniques for dealing with these issues are emphasized. There is also a discussion of the strengths and challenges of using the Twelve Steps with women.
