| For some clients, a more intensive and longer-term program is required for long-term recovery. At its Center for Youth and Families in Plymouth, Minn., Hazelden offers extended care services for young men, ages 14 to 25, who have completed primary treatment (at Hazelden or another program), but are not yet equipped to return home or move to a halfway house setting.
There are several reasons a person may require longer, more structured treatment. Young men who have experienced multiple relapses, or who struggle with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety or grief, particularly benefit from this program. The additional structure, safety and focused attention of Hazelden's youth Extended Care program offers more time to heal and added opportunities to learn and practice coping skills necessary for long-term abstinence. The length of stay varies according to each client's needs, but may be up to 90 days.
