Hazelden Betty Ford's Hot Topic #4:
Hazelden Betty Ford
680 Stewart Ave.
St. Paul, MN 55102
October 2
The opioid epidemic changed the landscape of addiction treatment, as clinicians started seeing more and more clients at high risk of overdose and death. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) helps decrease overdose risk, but integrating the approach into a treatment program is controversial. Some professionals and members of self-help communities view it, at best, as an unnecessary crutch and, at worst, as an attempt to substitute one drug for another and thereby undermine a person's recovery efforts. This presentation explores how to integrate MAT and person-centered approaches into a treatment program, and how to address stigma in order to best help this vulnerable population.
